Libs don't want Nat Takeover The Australian tells us that at least half of the former members of the Liberal Party in Queensland aren't joining the Nationals' dominated LNP. What the story doesn't say is that with even less Liberals in the LNP the Nationals domination of the new party will be absolute.
Senior Liberals like the past Liberal MP for Lilley Elizabeth Grace won't be part of the LNP. Ms Grace was quoted in the article as saying "The LNP amounts to a Nationals' takeover of the Liberal Party" |

Newman Backing Out? Cr Newman the Lord Mayor of Brisbane claimed today that the Conservatives in council were called "Liberals" not LNP members. Other councilors weren't so sure that they were still Liberals. The muddle was completed when Cr Newman attempted to distance himself from Lawrence Springborg by saying "We have always had different views from people such as John Howard and Lawrence Springborg". It seems the Council team have yet to be convinced that being taken over by the National Party is the way to go. |

The Australian quotes "LNP Strategists" as saying "that with the former Nationals having a two-to-one membership majority over former Liberals in the LNP, the ban on broad-scale tree clearing would be eased" |

55 splits between Liberals and Nationals. In the last 10 years the Liberals and Nationals have voted against each other in the Parliament 55 times. They have been divided over such important issues as Education, Tobacco, Electricity, Land Clearing, Day Light Saving, Fluoridation and many more. Now the 15 National Party MPs to only 8 Liberals means that the Nationals will dominate the Liberals on all these issues. |
